the old lady with the flowers
standing at the windy corner
her little bunch of flowers
carried from her garden
in her hands
half-looking at passers-by
tired. and ashamed.
and tired and ashamed are the passers-by
avoiding eye-contact
throwing a coin
afraid to touch the flowers
as if it was them that carried all the sadness
all the poverty
the lost dreams
within their beauty.
